Repairing Water Damaged Rugs And Carpets

I arrived at a home in Boulder today expecting to cut out a small piece of sewage damaged carpet from a sewage backup that occurred last week. The rugs were completely dry and we had to deduce how far the sewage reached into the room. The most important complication was that one of the daughters was in the hospital with respiratory issues that dealt with bacteria build up in the lungs. This condition was not as a direct result from the sewage backup but from other factors. The homeowner wished to piece together some carpeting scraps and replace the areas that he thought the sewage had reached. We had some very tough decisions to make and I wanted the client to be able to save some money especially with all the stress and expenses from having a child in the hospital.

Mold spores are found in nature all the time. In fact we encounter and even inhale them probably every day with no ill effect. It is when the spores are encountered in heavy concentrations in an enclosed space (such as a basement) that they become an issue.

This is of course an over simplification of the process involved but it gives you an idea of what you need to do. Contact a restoration service, contact your insurance and then hope for the best. Flood damage is never easy to clean up but remember that you will eventually get through it.
